Wedding planning is a time of much excitement, socialization, and of course, searching for those perfect service providers that will make your special day unforgettable. With a calendar overflowing with appointments, it can be difficult not to feel overwhelmed. Wedding Planning is a life event just as stressful as starting a new job or moving to a new home.
We've put together this Free-Your-Time Up Wedding Guide to help AUTOMATE your way into peaceful planning!
1. DROP OFF YOUR LAUNDRY!
This may sound crazy, but on average, most folks spend over 3-4 HOURS a week washing, drying, and folding laundry. For a mere $20 for over 20 lbs of laundry, drop it off at your nearest trusted laundromat. You'll be delighted with those extra 4 hours a week!
2. USE PEAPOD OR ANOTHER GROCERY SERVICE
Long Island's top choice for groceries is Stop and Shop. Did you know that they offer a service called "Peapod"? You can place your grocery order online while on your lunch break at work, and simply pull into a 15 minute pick-up spot right in front of the grocery store when you're out. You can even have your order DELIVERED to your door for $10 or less! Money well spent. Over 2 hours SAVED. Sounds like a Wedding Planning Time Saving Score to me.
3. TRY TO CONSOLIDATE WEDDING APPOINTMENTS
Some service providers offer multiple services. Try to see if you can sit for an appointment that might incorporate several things you are in need of. For instance, some florists also offer wedding invitations. You can also ask for recommendations from people you sit for appointments with. For instance, there are limo companies that occasionally offer family discount cards for tuxedo or dress shops. Wedding Wire Long Island has a list of all the top rated local Wedding service providers.
4. GET A VIRTUAL ASSISTANT FOR A FEW HOURS
If you haven't already heard of the global internet trend of Virtual Assistants, this is the PERFECT time. ODESK is an incredible Virtual Assistant Database with real professionals both within and outside of the US who charge SUPER low rates to accomplish basic tasks (some as low as $5/hr).
Have them make the calls to schedule your week (or month's) Wedding appointments, create spreadsheets for you of top rated Wedding providers in your area, and tame your flooded personal email inbox.
5. GET A (CHEAP) HOUSEKEEPER!
You don't need to be Daddy Warbucks these days to get a little TLC in the cleaning department. Skip your chores for a few months, for as cheap as $30 for a 3 hour cleaning. Don't believe me? Check out Care.com, an online hub of housekeeping locals right in your own neighborhood!
6. BATCH TINY TASKS
Wedding vendor hunting fatigue can lead to zoning out, procrastination, and overall irritability. Tiny tasks that we think nothing of can actually be the BIGGEST time suck. Set aside designated 15 -30 minute time slots to focus solely on one GROUP of tasks, and make a list that you can check off. For Example: Turn off your cellphone all day, then follow a list that looks something like this:
15 Minutes: Social Media
- Answer Facebook Messages, Scan Feed (8 min)
- Acknowledge Instagram comments, Scan Feed (5 min)
- Tweet something fun (2 min)
This may sound neurotic, but the average person spends an average of an HOUR on social media every day. It's easy to get lost in the sauce with all those tantalizing posts! You can also budget your time wisely with your phone calls (another time wasting vortex...especially during wedding planning) by prefacing your return calls with a firm but kind explanation that you only have "X minutes" to talk, because you are wedding planning. Average time saved by Batching: 3 hours a day. Need some help staying on track with Batching? The App Alarmed is rated 5 stars by over 24,000 people as the #1 mobile and desktop time organizational tool.
7. "TV NIGHT"
The average American spends over 5 HOURS per week watching TV. This is where the investment of a DVR or a Hulu Subscription might really come in handy. Designate a strict "TV Night" Each week. I recommend Wednesday, to get you over the mid-week hump. One 5 hour TV Night Marathon = 30 hours a WEEK saved. That's the equivalent of a hefty part time job. Get a 1 week FREE Hulu subscription here and get information on getting a DVR unit here.
Here's hoping you found this useful and informative. Try this out for a week or two...you won't BELIEVE how much free time, peace of mind, and wedding planning relief you'll suddenly have!
